ISRAEL : Pastory – Restaurant reviews during the “Italian Food Week”

Pastory is my favorite restaurant in Eilat.

It meets my strong affection for good and simple Italian food and does it in an excellent way while providing fair prices, satisfying and filling dishes and rustic atmosphere a la Italia.

Although the culinary scene is very weak in Eilat, and new restaurants don’t pop up like mushrooms after it rains like they do in Tel Aviv {and when they finally opened a new and promising restaurant, the WHALE, it ended up being very disappointing}, I don’t define Pastory as a good restaurant relatively to others in Eilat – Pastory is a great Italian restaurant, period.

This time I decided to write a special review, about a particularly attractive meal from the Italian Food Week, sponsored by Gad Dairy, which started last night and will continue until 27/12/15.

All of the information about the 26 restaurants participating in this celebration can be found here

This kind of Italian celebration is an excellent reason to go out on a date with my love and indulge in everything that Italian food offers – lots of carbs, mozzarella and of course caprese salad.

In honor of the Italian Food Week, Pastory is offering two menus in addition to the regular menu – one menu offering a full meal {appetizer, main course and dessert} for 79 shekels and the second menu offers a meal that’s a bit more upgraded {the menus are completely identical in terms of entrees and desserts, but the main courses are upgraded in terms of meat and seafood} and costs 99 shekels.

We decided to start our meal with Dalton’s Puma Blanc wine {88 shekels} – an excellent Israeli white wine, with a sweet fruity flavor that really suits Gewürz lovers.

After a short debate regarding the dishes, we decided to order one meal from each menu and to share all the dishes.

We chose two appetizers from the special menu: a personal focaccia baked with Parmesan and onion jam alongside olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The focaccia was crispy and impeccable. The combination of the sweet onion jam and the parmesan cheese that was scattered generously was excellent and made us consider ordering another focaccia.

But then we remembered that our pizza was on the way so we decided to pass 😉

The other first course we ordered was a caprese salad – a mosaic of 3 types of crisp and fresh cherry tomatoes {spotted, yellow and red}, baby mozzarella, balsamic caviar, pesto and olive oil.

I loved Pastory’s interpretation of the classic caprese salad and the use of excellent pesto sauce that emphasized the flavor of the basil in the dish.

For the main course we chose Pizza Funghi from the 79 shekels menu – a large pizza that was rich with homemade tomato sauce, a lot of mozzarella and an interesting variety of mushrooms.

Just like a real Italian pizza should be – made simple and well.

The second main dish we ordered was from the upgraded menu {99 shekels} – Lasagna di Carne.

We got a large and rich piece of lasagna made from amazing fresh pasta, ground meat, cream, a lot of mozzarella cheese and excellent Pomodoro sauce.

For dessert we chose both options offered in the special menu – both were based on rich mascarpone cream – one was decorated with a mixture of sugared nuts and the other was with vanilla and tart wild berries.

The desserts were relatively simple, but delicious.

In my opinion, they should have offered two desserts that weren’t based on the same raw material and given more option, like to offer a choice between a more chocolaty dessert and a more cheesy dessert.

In addition, the chef decided to pamper us with one of my favorite desserts – tasty Creme Brulee that was full of real vanilla seeds.

To sum it up, we left completely stuffed and satisfied 😉

I hope you left with two insights from this post:

  1. Don’t miss a meal at Pastory next time you visit Eilat.
  2. Allow yourself to indulge in a good Italian meal one evening this week at the price of a business lunch.
